故事发生在元朝末年，一份神秘的藏宝图重现江湖，惹得整个武林风起云涌不得安生。少林主持不语大师蒙冤受辱，于是在临终之前将武功和藏宝图传授给了正直善良的弟子张三丰（何家劲 饰），希望张三丰能够帮助他洗清冤屈，保护秘宝不落入不法之徒手中。
肩负重任的张三丰在腥风血雨尔虞我诈之中迅速成长，并且最终开创了武当太子五行拳成为掌门。在此过程中，青梅竹马的少女小怜（王佩韵 饰）不离不弃的陪伴协助着张三丰，其情谊昭然若揭。除此之外，风尘女子胭脂（鲍正芳 饰）和冷面杀手黄天碧（魏秋桦 饰）亦是张三丰生命中非常重要的两位女性，在侠义和柔情之间，张三丰尽显大侠风范。
